Mid-Maine Regional Adult Community Education

Wee Violin: Level Two | Spring

with Lori Scheck

Ages: 3 - 6

$150

This class is offered by Elm City Community Music School.

Wee Violin: Level Two is a continuation from the skills learned in Wee Violin: Level One that includes an additional one-on-one lesson in addition to the group class. This is a parent/child class for those who have completed Wee Violin: Level One.

Wee Violin is music that children all around the world sing and use in play naturally, without adult instruction.  With rich harmonies, melodies and a variety of tonalities and meters, families will find it effortless to listen, sing and dance to the music with their child.  In turn, children instinctively imitate Wee Violin music on their instrument.  While children are playing music they love, teachers can rest assured children are building solid technique. From how to stand, to how to hold the bow, to how to place fingers, each song has been paired with a foundational technique of violin playing, ensuring that every technique has ample time to solidify.

World Music Preparatory to Twinkle will bring joy and music into learning solid foundational technique in beginning violin lessons. Whether you are a “wee” child embarking on a violin journey, or part of the family, community or world supporting a young child, together “wee” can make music.

Wee Violin: Level Two is a parent/child class for toddlers through kindergarten. Registration fee covers 1 adult and 1 child. Child must have participated in Wee Violin: Level One prior to participating in Wee Violin: Level Two.

Lori Scheck grew up in Endicott, New York, and began playing violin at the age of 8. After her first year of lessons in public school, she began taking private lessons and studied the Suzuki method until the age of 18. After moving to Maine in her early 20’s she took a 14 year hiatus from playing the violin. After some child rearing and other major life changes, she resumed playing violin in late 2001. She has studied privately with Steve Kecskemethy, principal violinist of the Portland String Quartet. Lori attended Suzuki teacher training classes for Suzuki instruction at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, Hart Music School in Hartford, Connecticut, and Stanford University in Paolo Alto, California. Lori is an active board member of the Maine Suzuki Association and is a certified Music Together teacher.  She is also a member of the Colby College Symphony Orchestra in Waterville, ME. Occasionally, she plays piano trios and string quartets with other area musicians. In her spare time, Lori enjoys playing violin and cello duets with her husband for public events and just for fun.
