Community Dance & Drumming
with Shana Bloomstein & Jeff Densmore
This class is offered through the Elm City Community Music School.
We explore movements inspired by studies and education within the dances of the African diaspora. We honor the teachings of these traditions but do not claim them to be our own, this class is therefore a fusion of Creative movement, Modern dance and influenced heavily by West African dances as studied with Arthur Hall, Babacar N’daye, Richard Gonzales and more.
This class will begin in a Joyful community-centered warm up followed by strengthening and stretching. We spend the remainder of the class building a movement phrase across the floor that is repeated and guided by the music!
This class is open to all ages, including children if you'd like to bring them along with an adult to dance with.
A parent is required to remain on-site for any registration for a child under 16 years of age. A separate registration is only required if the parent and child both plan to participate in the class.
