Basic American Sign Language Continued W20

This class is a continuing introduction to American Sign Language (ASL) and is appropriate for students who have had limited exposure to ASL. A study of the Deaf Community and Deaf Culture will be emphasized. The use of ASL in the classroom will be practiced by students and demonstrated by the instructor throughout the semester. Students will be exposed to the following aspects of ASL: grammar, basic vocabulary, fingerspelling techniques, numbers, syntax, visual-gestural skills, and grammatical non-manual skills, in order to provide competence in communication. Students will practice appropriate receptive and expressive activities. A textbook will be used to offer a wide range of vocabulary and cultural aspects of the language. Textbooks, workbooks, and costs will be discussed at the first class session. Limit 10 students. Storm date of May 26.
