Qi Gong F17
with Danielle Tognato
Qi Gong is a gentle, therapeutic exercise that coordinates breathing techniques with each movement. It is both curative and preventive and it is based on the ancient system of acupuncture meridians. The purpose of these exercises is to prevent or dissolve blockages of energy, stimulate the circulation, and correct imbalances by bringing harmony to the energies of the internal organs in such a way as to protect the body from attack by external factors (viruses, cold, heat, humidity) as well as internal factors such as negative emotions. Qi Gong can be safely performed by any age group and physical ability/disability. Wear comfortable clothes and cotton shoes, or shoes without rubber or plastic, as these materials do not allow for the passage of negative ions. Limit 30 students.
Yin Yoga F17
with Christiana Guillois
Yin Yoga is a complementary yoga practice to more heating yoga practices. All postures are done on the floor and held passively for 3-5 minutes, creating positive “stress” on cold ligaments (non-muscle) and connective tissues in the body. Yin intends to aid the natural mobility of the joints, primarily those between the navel and the knees. Resting periods between held postures are offered to restore ligaments and integrate circulation. Because Yin is a still and quiet practice, it’s a great way to prepare for meditation or deep relaxation. This is an all-level class. Good for the beginner and intermediate student. This class will definitely help with flexibility! Limit 24 students.
