Russian Punch Needle Messalonskee W20

In this class you will learn a Russian folk art that was discovered in the villages of the Eastern Block countries and not brought to this country until after the fall of communism. You will use embroidery floss on a cotton/linen foundation to form little loops with a special punch needle. The effect is a tiny hooked rug that you can frame and hang in your home or give as a gift. Third night we will discuss any problems and framing. You will also need to bring a small pair of embroidery scissors. A $15 material fee is payable to the instructor at the start of class. Limit 10 students.

Do you want to know what that old vase is worth? Did your kids leave comic books in your basement? Do you have boxes of old postcards, photos, papers? Or do you have items that no longer spark that joy and want to know if they may hold some value. Bring in your items - old or new, antique or collectable for an evening of discussion and appraisals. Items that may be too large to bring in please bring detailed photographs. Limit 25 students.

Reiki is a Japanese based, hands-on healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes natural healing. Learn how to use your hands to bring comfort and healing to yourself and others. Reiki balances and energizes all systems of the body and facilitates the relief of physical, mental, and emotional symptoms. It heals from the root cause and is compatible with all healing methods. This class will include what Reiki is, the history, and how it works. There will be ample time for hands-on practice. Students must attend all four sessions in order to receive full Reiki certification. Limit 10 students. Storm date of June 4.

The Tony-winning revival of Kander and Ebb’s musical will razzle-dazzle you. Set in the legendary city during the roaring “jazz hot” 20s, Chicago tells the story of two rival vaudevillian murderesses locked up in Cook County Jail. Nightclub star Velma’s serving time for killing her husband and sister after finding the two in bed together. Driven chorus girl Roxie’s been tossed in the joint for bumping off the lover she’s been cheating on her husband with. Not one to rest on her laurels, Velma enlists the help of prison matron Mama Morton and slickster lawyer Billy Flynn, who turn Velma’s incarceration into a murder-of-the-week media frenzy, thus preparing the world for a splashy showbiz comeback. But Roxie’s got some of her own tricks up her sleeve… The bus will depart from the Waterville Senior High School back parking lot at 7:30 a.m. and will make another pick-up at the West Gardiner Service Plaza at 8:00 a.m. After a “stretch-your-legs” break in Kennebunk we should arrive at Quincy Market at around 11:30 a.m. for some shopping and lunch on your own. We will then attend the 2:00 p.m. matinee at the Emerson Colonial Theater with our seats located in the dress circle section! We will head back to Maine after the show with a “pit-stop” in Kennebunk and drop off in Gardiner, we should return to Waterville by approximately 9:00 p.m. Fee includes transportation and theater ticket. You are expected to pay for your own meals. Please register by March 6. No refunds will be issued after March 6.

Join our lead chocolatier, Mark Simpson, as he leads a class on working with everyone’s favorite food - chocolate! In this fantastic and unique culinary class you’ll learn all about chocolate and practice beginner chocolate techniques (e.g. preparing ganache, tempering chocolate, etc.) as you create beautiful Bonbons with your mom! You’ll hand paint them in class with edible cocoa butter. Of course there’s a chocolate tasting too - that’s the best way to learn about chocolate! Participants will make 32 bonbons that they can arrange to pick up, or have delivered at a later date, as the chocolate must set overnight. Parent or guardian must register and participate in the class with students 14-17. Limit 3 pairs of students.
