Discover a safe, friendly, and motivating instructor-led group fitness class. Jazzercise is the ultimate full-body workout, fusing dance, yoga, Pilates, and kickboxing: 40 minutes of high intensity, dance-based cardio are followed by 20 minutes of strength training and stretching, during which you can burn up to 800 calories. All the moves can be modified to accommodate your needs (for instance, we show low impact options if you need to protect your knees). Bring supportive fitness shoes, moisture-wicking clothes you can move in, a bottle of water, and maybe a towel.

Substitute teaching in the public schools can be very rewarding as well as very challenging. In this workshop an experienced and well-respected local substitute teacher will share his knowledge and strategies with those who want to find success as a substitute teacher. Topics will include classroom and behavior management, the substitute survival pack, resources and expectations from local schools, helpful hints to keep any classroom on track, and information about staff conduct, affirmative action and harassment policies. Persons who successfully complete this two-hour workshop will receive a certificate that will be acknowledged by local schools as part of the application packet. Limit 10 students.

Students will meet with the teacher for the first night or two of class to learn the basics of crocheting. (These first two classes are a must especially if you are a beginner.) The next sessions will be reading a pattern and stitches not yet covered. We will work on a project of your choice from a selection of the teacher’s patterns and make practice pieces of each stitch. You will need a K or J crochet hook and a skein of worsted (4 ply) light colored yarn the first night of class. Limit 7 students. No class April 23. Storm date of May 14.

  1. Begin to Quilt! Come learn the basics of creating a beautiful quilt! Learn skills such as strip cutting, lining up seams to pin, piecing blocks together, sandwiching the quilt, and learn different styles of quilting. Students will make a mug rug and a lap quilt. A supply list is available on our FAQ tab at midmaine.maineadulted.org. There may be “homework” and students must know how to sew. Bring your own machine! Limit 10 students. Storm date of June 1.
