Photography: After Dark*

This class, taught via Zoom, will explore all of the things you need to know to take successful images after sunset and before sunrise. This session reviews exposure, how to shoot images in the dark—including the Milky Way and Aurora—and how to capture your best photo under moonlight. We will review equipment helpful for nighttime photography, including using a cell phone. 

Cooking for Crowds*

Learn up-to-date methods for safely preparing, handling, and serving food for large groups such as soup kitchens, church functions, food pantries, and community fundraisers—or even for your very own family!

This workshop will cover the following food safety guidelines: planning and purchasing, storing food, supplies needed, preparing food, transporting food, storing and serving cooked food, and proper handling of leftovers.

Participants will receive the Cooking for Crowds Manual, Certificate of Attendance, posters, and an instant read thermometer. There is a $15 materials fee, separate from the registration fee, due directly to the instructor at the start of the first class. 

Social Security Q and A*

This is an educational program for people who are nearing retirement age (55+) who have questions about how Social Security actually works. The 15-minute presentation will help you answer these questions. How does Social Security will fit into your retirement income plan? When should you start taking benefits? And what about the taxes? There will be a question and answer session at the end of the presentation.

Dichroic or Fused Glass Jewelry*

In this class YOU choose what to make: Dichroic Glass or Fused Glass Jewelry!

The Dichroic Glass students will make a unique beautiful jewelry set that reflects light by stacking metal oxides together. For the Fused Glass students you will place pieces of glass together to create two sets of pendants, pins, and earrings. View the instructors original art on the Mid-Maine Adult Education website.

Dichroic Glass Students: There is a $95 Materials Fee, separate from the registration fee, due to the instructor, check or cash, at the start of the first class.

Fused Glass Students: There is a $50 materials fee, separate from the registration fee, due to the instructor, case or check, at the start of the first class.

There will be a storm make-up class on Nov. 9, if needed.

Soap Making Workshop and Demo*

This age-old process is simple yet tricky. Learn to combine lye, fat, and water to make soap, and learn safety tips. During this soap making demonstration and information night you will get a lot of pointers and helpful hints.

There is a $10 materials fee per person, separate from the registration fee, due directly to the instructor at the start of class that covers the cost of your soap. There will be additional soap to purchase, as well.
