Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine for Beginners*

Do you have a brand new sewing machine, or perhaps one you were given or inherited?Would you like to learn how to thread it and wind a bobbin, how to keep it clean, and understand the tension settings?

Bring your sewing machine, owner’s manual (if you have one), power cord, thread, bobbin/s, scissors, and some cotton or cotton/poly fabric that you don’t mind using for practice. Limit 8 students.

Tai Chi for Arthritis*

Tai Chi is an enjoyable exercise that can improve balance, relieve pain, and improve health and ability to do things. It is a slow exercise. It is easy to learn and good for all ability levels. The essential principles of Tai Chi include mind and body integration, fluid movements, controlled breathing and mental concentration. Tai Chi is one of the most effective exercises for the health of mind and body. It helps people to relax and feel better. There is an optional book and DVD that are available for an additional cost and can be purchased online. The instructor will send you the links at the time of registration.

This class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays. There will be no class on Oct. 14 and Nov. 11 due to the holidays. There will be a storm make-up class on Nov. 25, if needed. 

Crochet for Beginners: Small Afghan Blanket*

Crocheting is fun and easy once you know how. The best part is you can be creative almost anywhere. In this class, we will make a small afghan using single, double, and triple crochet stitches. You will learn how to begin and end, and the in-between will be the practice of the basic stitches.

For the Afghan, you will need 2 skeins of a light colored yarn of your choice and correlating crochet hook. This information will be found on your yarn label. You will also need scissors, measuring tape, and a yarn needle. Your full supply list will be sent via email once we have enough students for the class.

There will be no class on Oct. 14 and Nov. 11 due to the holidays. Please mark your calendar for a storm makeup on Nov. 18 if needed.

Is your closet full of black clothing? Would you like to learn what other colors look good on you? In this fun interactive class, you'll be draped in a variety of colors to learn about warmer and cooler tones to determine what types of colors look best on you. You'll also receive recommendations for eye shadows, blush and lipsticks for your coloring so you can put the two together to create a more vibrant you! Limit 15 students.

A Writer's Workshop*

Do you want to improve your writing skills for your job, write a poem for your beloved, or finish that tucked-away family memoir? Or have you thought of writing a manuscript?

Join us for this 6-week online writer’s workshop where we will explore a variety of writing genres. This semester we will focus on stories—both real and imagined. We will analyze the elements of effective storytelling, including, but not limited to plot, character, and scene. We will examine successful writing strategies and tricks of the trade. Most importantly, we will discover that writing is be FUN! Limit 12 students.

NOTE: Students will receive an email with the Zoom link and other details about the class after they have registered. 

Stained Glass*

In this class, beginner students will learn the step-by-step process of Tiffany’s copper foil stained glass design. Students will participate in a field trip on the second class (Oct. 10) to the Stained Glass Shop in Manchester. At the end of the class you will created a beautiful glass panel and have gained the fundamental skills to continue a new and beautiful hobby and craft.

For Beginner students: The Beginner Kit is $120, separate from the registration fee, and there will be other materials that you will need to purchase on the night of the field trip, such as glass which will be an additional $40-$50.

For Intermediate students: You will work independently and under the teacher’s watchful eye as you advance your techniques. If you have been thinking about learning Stained Glass or improving your skills this is your chance! There is a $10 "Intermediate student "materials fee, separate from the registration fee, due to the instructor on the first night of class. If you have tools and supplies from previously, you will not need to buy more on the field trip night.

There will be no class on Oct. 31, and a make up day will be on Nov. 21, if needed. Limit 15 students.

Chinese Dumplings: Won Tons*

We will make Chinese dumplings with pork filling made from scratch in class! You will learn the multiple styles of folding dumplings using won ton wrappers. Then we will boil the won ton to make a classic won ton soup or chili oil won ton. Additionally, we’ll learn to make our own Sichuan-style chili oil and learn about other common Chinese condiments used for dipping sauces.

Please mark your calendar for Saturday, Oct. 26 just in case a storm makeup is needed. Limit 12 students.

Foundations of Investing*

This class is for those who are new to investing or would like a strategy refresher.

We will discuss basic rules of investing: how to develop a plan, how to choose quality investments, how to diversify your portfolio, and most importantly how to invest for the long term and focus on the things that YOU can control.
