Batik Painting I and II Messalonskee W18

$25

with Pam Gatcomb

Calendar May 5, 2018 at 8:30 am, runs for 1 week
In this class beginners will learn the Art of Batiking using a chanting tool. This art form is simple and fun, so it will allow you to be quite successful quickly. Students who have taken the class before will be able to advance their skills. You will make a colorful batik painting and dip dye a bandana using real indigo dye. Our instructor learned the art form from a Master Batik Javanese artist in Singapore where she lived for a year. She has taught this class at summer camp and her students love “batiking.” This class is open to all, including young people 10 to 17 with their guardian. (Both parent and young person must register.) Please bring a hair dryer (if you have one), large plastic trash bag, and several plastic grocery shopping bags. A $20 material fee is payable to the instructor at start of class. Please bring a bag lunch, as we will have a half hour break about halfway through the class while our art work dries. Limit 10 students.

This allows students to take one or more of the modules over the course of the semester. Each completed module earns a high school diploma student one quarter elective credit. Community members are also welcome.
