Mid-Maine Regional Adult Community Education provides the free services of a post-secondary counselor to assist students with their career and educational plans following receipt of their high school diploma or the HiSETTM. It is required that all academic students meet with the post-secondary counselor soon after registration and begin to plan for the next step. College Essentials for Student Success This course, designed with University of Maine at Augusta and Kennebec Valley Community College, will assist students to develop the skills necessary to be successful in college. The class will cover topics such as college applications, FAFSA and financial aid, study skills, time management, and more in a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere. The class will be offered in three modules. Students may take one or all three modules. If all three modules are completed successfully students may be eligible for college credits and /or scholarship opportunities. (3 UMA credits/1 KVCC credit) No class Oct. 14 and Nov. 11. This course will prepare students for Algebra I and/or entry-level college math. Whether you need a refresher before registering for your first college math course or need to improve your scores on the ACCUPLACER, you will find this course helpful. There will be a review of whole number operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, and other essential math skills. Word problems and the language of math will be explored. Limit 15 students. No class Oct. 14 and Nov. 11.

Do you want to tour a college, but want someone to go with you to advise you? Call today and schedule an appointment with our college and career advisor. You will meet with admissions personnel and learn about programs and requirements, peer mentors, and financial aid as well as touring the facility. This tour could be the beginning of understanding how to access and feel at ease with a college campus. Colleges may include, but are not limited to: Kennebec Valley Community College, Thomas College, University of Maine at Augusta, and Unity College. Tours will be scheduled by appointment. Work in this course will include: Building confidence with grammar Writing several well-developed paragraphs Conducting research Using specific revision strategies Responding to writing prompts Writing an argumentative essay The Next-Generation ACCUPLACER college entrance exam will be administered at the end of the course.
