3D Printed Jewelry Design W20

During this three session course, students will learn the basics of 3D printing and simple jewelry designs using basic metal findings and beads. Using Tinkerkad software and Flashforge printers, students will explore how to design a print and get hands-on experience with operating a 3D printer. Participants will receive a key card to access the studio when the class is not in session. Students are invited to bring a laptop or tablet if they would like, but it is not necessary in order to take the class. The software is not technically complex and most anyone can use it! Beginner Sewing W20

Learn how to sew! Beginners or someone that needs a refresher can come learn the basics of sewing such as threading your machine and bobbin, cutting, pinning and sewing four simple projects. Learn basic seams and French seams while creating a placemat, bento or drawstring bag, a banner, and pillowcase. A supply list is available on our FAQ tab at midmaine.maineadulted.org. Pastels for All Levels W20

In this class we will explore the medium of pastels to create vibrant and luminous paintings. In addition to learning the techniques of painting in pastels, students will experiment with using expressive color in a variety of subject matter, with a concentration on landscapes. The principles of composition, design, value and color will be integrated in all sessions and the care and framing of pastel paintings will be explained. Watercolor Painting for Beginners W20

Painting with watercolors is relaxing and the results can be surprisingly unexpected. In this beginners class you will learn about types of paper, brushes, paints and other materials needed to create your masterpiece. You will learn about dry brush, wet on wet, glazing, using kosher salt, plastic wrap plus other techniques to achieve certain effects. These classes are structured and informal, join us and learn the basics and develop your own style. A lesson plan will be made available to registered students. Rug Hooking Gathering W20

Pulling a thin strip of wool fabric through cotton or burlap backing to create a looped surface is the foundation for the creation of rugs, wall hangings, and chair seats. Dyed colors to blend or salvaged quality material can be worked tightly to loosely for unique presentations. Beginners will select from a variety of kit designs (priced $25 - $35), which when complete will make a 9 inch circle mat. The facilitator will share her knowledge and join in the discussion and experienced rug hooking enthusiasts will be available for direction and moral support. Beginners will need to bring only scissors to class and hoops and hooks will be available to use. Limit 20 students. Storm date of Apr. 29.
Ukrainian (Pysanka) Egg Decorating Messalonskee W20

The Pysanka, a decorated egg, was common among Slavic peoples as far back as 5,000 B.C. and was a very important spring ritual. When decorating eggs in the Ukrainian style, designs are drawn on the egg with melted beeswax, which flows from a tool called a Kystka. The eggs are then dipped in a series of dyes and the final pattern is revealed when the wax is removed. Please bring reading glasses, if you use them. A $25 material fee is payable to the instructor at the start of class. Limit 15 students. Storm date Apr. 1.
Spinning Yarn on a Drop Spindle W20

This fun and hands-on exploration of fiber and color will teach participants to hand spin in two sessions! Try washing a fleece, preparing the fiber by hand carding, and learn the basics of spinning. This is a perfect course for knitters to try designing the yarn they want and discovering their own spinning style. No experience required. All materials included and each participant will go home with a drop spindle to keep! Limit 8 students. Storm date of Apr. 18.
