Basket Weaving Messalonskee W17

We will start by making a basic round basket with trim that encompasses several important techniques of basket weaving. Later we will make a square basket and as time allows you will choose a pattern that will continue to help you develop your basket weaving skills. Bring a pair of scissors, tape measure, clothespins, and dishwashing pan. Lab fee for the basket is to be determined by size, but most will be $10 or less and is due the first night of class and before the start of each new basket. Please note: There will be no class on Mar. 8 due to Parent Teacher Conferences and during school vacation, April 19. Limit 10 students.

Chalk Painting a Home Decor Sign W17

Learn the process of painting a decorative sign for your home. Each student will choose between several options to complete a 2’ x 10” sign in the class. More than walking out with a completed sign, you will learn the skills to make any sign without expensive equipment, stencils or vinyl. Miki Earle, creator of The Royal Chalk paint line, has taught hundreds of DIY students. Leave with your new sign and the knowledge of how to create any sign you want. Wear paint clothes and bring a small drop cloth. All materials, paint and tools will be provided. A $25 materials fee is payable to the instructor at start of class. Limit 12 students.

Each student will learn the simple four step system of chalk painting kitchen cabinets or furniture in this single evening course. You will learn how to create any look your desire…vintage, cottage, antiqued, modern…. in any painted color you desire at a fraction of the cost of new cabinets or new furniture. Wood, MDF, Laminate can all be painted. No experience required! Miki Earle, creator of The Royal Chalk paint line, has taught hundreds of DIY students to successfully refinish furniture and cabinetry. Wear paint clothes and bring a small drop cloth. Empty Bowls Community Pottery Project Messalonskee W17

In this class you learn to make and glaze slab bowls that will contribute to the supply of bowls for the Empty Bowls Dinner here at Messalonskee High School on Mar. 10. You will make two bowls to take home to use as a gifts or decorations and the other two bowls will contribute to an evening event that will help the food pantries in our RSU 18 communities. Dress in work clothes. A $5 material fee is payable to instructor at start of class. Fee covers the cost of clay, glaze, and firing of your two bowls. There will be a snow date of Feb. 16. Limit 15 students.

Knitting Round Table Messalonskee W17

If you are a beginner you will learn to knit and purl and make a dishcloth. Once you have finished that and feel ready you will move on to another practice project. If you have been knitting for a while and want to improve your ability to read patterns and perform various techniques then this round table will be just the thing. Beginners will need size 7 or 8 short single point needles or circular needles for the dishcloth. All others should bring a project that you are working on, or plan to work on, a project from the teacher’s selection of patterns will also be available, or bring your pattern book and supplies. No Class April 18. Limit 8 students.

Learn to Crochet Messalonskee W17

Students will meet with the teacher for the first night or two of class to learn the basics of crocheting. The next sessions will be reading a pattern and stitches not yet covered. We will work on a project of your choice from a selection of the teacher’s patterns and make practice pieces of each stitch. You will need a K or J crochet hook and a skein of worsted (4 ply) light colored yarn the first night of class. Storm make up will be after school vacation on April 27. Limit 10 students.

Nature Journaling Art Messalonskee W17

The natural world around us - nature - is full of beauty and curiosity; come explore your journey through art and words. Using cloth-bound journals and a variety of media and subjects, focused on both the botanical and artistic sides, we will create beautiful art through nature, on the covers as well as the pages! Various found objects - and please bring any of your own - will be used for contour drawing, cyanotypes, prints, and more. We will also journey outdoors for journaling a portion of the time, as weather permits. A $15 materials fee is payable to the instructor the first night of class. Limit 12 students.
