Spinning Yarn on a Drop Spindle W20

This fun and hands-on exploration of fiber and color will teach participants to hand spin in two sessions! Try washing a fleece, preparing the fiber by hand carding, and learn the basics of spinning. This is a perfect course for knitters to try designing the yarn they want and discovering their own spinning style. No experience required. All materials included and each participant will go home with a drop spindle to keep! Limit 8 students. Storm date of Apr. 18.

- Begin to Quilt! Come learn the basics of creating a beautiful quilt! Learn skills such as strip cutting, lining up seams to pin, piecing blocks together, sandwiching the quilt, and learn different styles of quilting. Students will make a mug rug and a lap quilt. Art in an Evening: Vincent Van Gogh “a Mashup” Messalonskee W20

Enjoy a relaxing evening creating art! We will paint Van Gogh-inspired sunflowers on a starry night, which is like two masterpieces in one! You will learn a lot about painting and the artist as well. No art experience is necessary! Doreen provides the paint, brushes, canvas, easels, and instructions. You will leave class with smile and a wonderful painting for that room you have just redecorated or to give as a gift to a beloved family member or friend. Jewelry Making: Peacock’s Nest Messalonskee W20

Do some shopping for Mother’s Day or for yourself. We will make a beautiful wire-wrapped nest pendant in your choice of suede or stainless steel. Wet Felting Messalonskee W20

In three and a half hours you can make an incredibly soft purse or scarf by felting merino wool. This involves fusing the wool fibers together with hot water and soap. No experience needed. Come be part of an old-time type gathering. Young people who are interested in learning to felt and are 12 to 17 may register with their parent or guardian who is registered for the class. If you have a hand sander please bring it. Also you should bring an apron if you have one and two absorbent towels (not your best ones). A $25 material fee is payable to the instructor at the start of class. Limit 8 students.
Russian Punch Needle Messalonskee W20

In this class you will learn a Russian folk art that was discovered in the villages of the Eastern Block countries and not brought to this country until after the fall of communism. You will use embroidery floss on a cotton/linen foundation to form little loops with a special punch needle. The effect is a tiny hooked rug that you can frame and hang in your home or give as a gift. Third night we will discuss any problems and framing. You will also need to bring a small pair of embroidery scissors. A $15 material fee is payable to the instructor at the start of class. Limit 10 students.
