We will find out how different organisms work together and how living things are organized and reproduce. We will also study viruses and how they can affect plants. At the end of the course, we will travel to a local greenhouse and see how Biology is related to plants and how they grow and thrive. (Each student will take home plants from the greenhouse.) Students will end the course with a knowledge of the basic fundamentals of biology

This introductory guitar course is designed for beginners interested in learning how to play the guitar. We will cover guitar maintenance, string sizes, changing strings, choosing the proper guitar and care of the guitar. We will cover sight-reading, music theory, scales, and note values. We will also incorporate guitar processors and signal boxes - if you bring them, and learn how to set up amps. When you finish this course you should be able to pick up sheet music and know key, melody, chords, and changes. You will need to bring a guitar and the instructor will bring books, which you must purchase before the start of the first class - cost TBD - about $7. You will also need a 3-ring binder for your homework. The instructor welcomes students ages 10 and up. Parent or guardian must register and participate in the class with students under 17. No class Feb. 20, and Apr. 17. Snowstorm make up dates will be added on at the end of the session. Limit 10 students.

This online learning course is a collaboration between the Through the Woods Consortium (Lawrence, Mid-Maine and Skowhegan Adult Education programs) and KVCC. This Maine College Transition course will provide an introduction to and overview of the study of human behaviors. Lectures and discussion topics will include: motivation, perception, historical roots, the biological basis of behavior, scientific methods, human development, psychopathology, and theory. The Virtual Learning Center & BlackBoard will be utilized to complete the assignments and activities within course perameters. Pre-requisites: high school diploma and a score of 238 or above on the CASAS Reading Assessment. Limit – 8 students. (3 KVCC credits)

Have you always wanted to try Yoga, but the feeling that you need to be flexible or get into a pretzel pose does not appeal to you? Then, this is the class for you! It is a perfect place for both men and women who are curious about yoga and want to feel comfortable and safe. You will learn the basic standing poses, balances, backbends, and forward bends used in most beginner classes. Wear comfortable clothing for ease of movement. All props are provided but please feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer. Limit 20 students. No class Feb. 21.

Have you been thinking about heavy, warm socks and wishing you had a pair? What better way to improve your knitting skills than by making some! You will learn to work circularly with double-pointed needles, learn to read instructions, how to turn the heel, and the Kitchener Stitch. You should be comfortable with knit and purl stitches. Also if you have done some work on double pointed needles that will be helpful, but it is not necessary. Call our Messalonskee office 465-9134 for the supply list or you can find it on our website at midmaine.maineadulted.org. Limit 10 Students.

Calendar Mar 22, 2018 at 6 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Students will meet with the teacher for the first night or two of class to learn the basics of crocheting. (These first two classes are a must especially if you are a beginner.) The next sessions will be reading a pattern and stitches not yet covered. We will work on a project of your choice from a selection of the teacher’s patterns and make practice pieces of each stitch. You will need a K or J crochet hook and a skein of worsted (4 ply) light colored yarn the first night of class. No class Apr. 19. Storm make-up will be May 10. Limit 8 students.
