This class will introduce you to the basics of accounting - debits and credits. You will learn to use ledgers, journals, balance sheets, income statements, and spreadsheets. You will need a 3-ring binder, pencil/pen, and calculator for this class. Class will be held on Sept. 20 - which is a district early release day.

The purpose of this course is to give students the basics of math while exploring financial literacy. During this course, students will learn to perform operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages. Additionally, they will gain a greater understanding of the financial issues that affect their lives now: budgeting money, understanding a paycheck, buying a car and choosing a credit card. Students will also be introduced to financial topics that they will encounter in the years to come as they finish school and enter the workforce. Mortgages, rent, insurances, utilities, groceries, entertainment, investing and saving for retirement will be topics in this course. This course is offered to students earning a high school diploma as well as the general public. Limit 15 students.

In this class we will go from thinking about what to sell or buy to what happens when you do sell or buy. We will cover setting up your Ebay and Paypal accounts. We will also cover listing, final value, fees, shipping, and other costs that affect your bottom line. For this class you will need a laptop, tablet, or smart phone, and a few items to list on Ebay. We will be researching these items, so please bring them to the first class. (If it is large, valuable, or breakable, bring detailed pictures and information about the item.) Limit 10 students.

Bring your phone, cords, and booklet if you have one, and if you don’t that’s ok this is the night to learn about cell phones and what they can do. Limit 6 students.

If you are interested in sharing two to four hours a week with individuals and family members who are facing a life threatening illness, certified hospice volunteer training with Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area may be the course for you. After training, your support may include: companionship, letter writing, life review, reading, compassionate listening, respite for the caregiver, or bereavement support for family members. You can make living each day a gift. A pre-training interview is required. There is a non-refundable $30 fee for background and driver’s license checks, scholarships are available. Our training will run: Saturdays, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., October 14, 21, & 28, Mondays, 5:30-8:30 p.m., October 16 & 23; and Wednesdays, 5:30-8:30 p.m., October 18 & 25.
